Bassermann-Jordan 2021 Ungeheuer Riesling Grand Cru dry

Regular price £60.35

"Bassermann's 2021 Forster Ungeheuer Riesling GG opens with a clear, deep nose with ripe, elegant fruit as well as fine smoke and herbal aromas. Delicate and refined in the mouth, yet juicy and elegant, with crystalline saltinity and good, compact length as well as some tension, this is an excellent 2021 Ungeheuer. 13% stated alcohol" - Tasted in Wiesbaden / August 2022 - 93 point by Robert Parker

Vineyard: The name derives from the former Diedesheim town clerk Johann Adam Ungeheuer, who died in 1699. His gravestone is still standing today next to the old chirch in Mussbach. The former Chancellor Otto von Bismarck said about a wine from this vineyard "This Ungeheuer tastes monstrous to me!"

Soil: Sandy loam, sandstone rocks, high concentation of iron in the soil, partly basalt.

Wine making: The grapes for the Foster Ungeheuer Grand Cru were selectively harvested. Approx. 40% were vinified in stainless steel tanks, about 60% in traditional large wooden barrels. After fermentation, the individual base wines remained on the lees until bottling in July.

Taste: At the beginning the Ungeheuer is rather restrained with slightly floral and herbaceous notes. With air comes some spice and delicate smoke. Overall, the wine seems cool, taut, with a firm body and some salty minerality on the tongue. This Riesling is dense with plenty of draw and finesse. A wine that has a great future ahead.

Food recommendation: Fits perfectly wit seafood and poultry.

Alcohol: 13,0% vol.
