Frühburgunder is an old grape variety belonging to the pinot family. That could be declared as early ripening variety of Pinot Noir. The very small, thick-skinned grapes produce fruity and full-bodied wines with an intense colour. Its velvety taste is characterized by a fine acidity and gentle, delicate tannins.
The secret of the Ahr wines is based on a perfect microclimate mcreated by geological conditions. The steep, south-facing vineyards provide optimal exposure to the sun. The predominant weathering soils of slate and greywacke are easily heatable and able to store this heat as well. This is how the narrow valley which is protected by the mountains of the Eifel quickly heats up and offers the vines an ideal habitat.
Hand picking, yield about 30-35 hl/ha, maturing in barriques (French oak) for 10 month; for the most part in used barrels (no new oak).
In nose and taste dominate berry fruits like raspberry and huckleberry, morello cherry and elegant floral aroma, cacao bean and roasted aroma with soft tannin structure
