Bischel 2020 Gau-Algesheim Riesling "Terra Fusca" dry whie wine

Bischel 2020 Gau-Algesheim Riesling "Terra Fusca" dry

Regular price £28.25

"Smell like a ripe honeydew melon. But crisp and grippy on the palate. Lovely tingle and, through the core, a slim augur of gorse-leaf and yellow floral scented loaminess. Greengage and sweet lovage leafiness. A white-pepper spiced finish." / Tamlyn Currin @ Jancis Robinson / 16.5 points

With a little air, the nose reveals aromas of wild herbs, grapefruit and peach. Fruit and minerality intensify on the palate. This Riesling's long finish has flavours of fresh stone fruit and salty hints.

Vineyard: The grapes come from the oldest Riesling vineyards in Gau-Algesheim's St. Laurenzikapelle. Tertiary shell limestone and clay marl characterise the soil there in the upper part of the slope. The steep, south-east facing slope allows the grapes to ripen very slowly, producing a juicy Riesling with a cool minerality and wild notes of herbs and grapefruit.

Vinification: A very late harvest of the highly ripe grapes is staggered by hand. For optimal extraction of aromas, the grapes are gently crushed in the winery and left to stand in their own juice for a few hours. After gentle pressing, the juice fermented with natural yeast in stainless steel vats. After eight months of maturation, the wine was bottled.
