Schloss Reinhartshausen 2015 Marcobrunn Riesling Grand Cru dry white wine

Schloss Reinhartshausen 2015 Marcobrunn Riesling Grand Cru dry

Regular price £52.70

"The Marcobrunn grand cru is 6.7 ha and has 5 different owners. Heavy loess loam and chalky marl soil with sand. The wine is more on the spicy side and the ageing potential is legendary, I'm told. They use basket press, so get more tannins, and the wine spends more time on skins.
Chocolate and mint on the nose Unusual dark-berried fruit on the palate -blackberry, cassis. Manifest spice and grip with a remarkable seaweed, iodine saltiness. But at the same, deep draughts of freshness in aromatic notes of blackcurrant bud, box leaf and peppermint. Completly different from the Schlossberg. Very, very striking. Commanding." / Tamlyn Currin @ Jancis Robinson / 17.5 points

The Grand Cru site where the grapes that produce this Riesling are grown is amongst the best in the world. For the cellar masters of Schloss Reinhartshausen it is both an honour and a pleasure to be able to accompany these benchmark sites.

The Marcobrunn site is a slightly sloping southern site within boundaries of Erbach. Its name dates back to the 13th century and stems from a spring on the border between Erbach and Hattenheim. The vine area which is only 6.7ha, grows only Riesling. Heavy loess loam and chalky marl soil with sand ensures a prefect nutrient supply and regulates the water levels during the dry periods.

The grapes for the Marcobrunn are gently presses by horizontal wooden presses, which involves intense manual labour.

This Riesling delivers an expressive play of fruits combined with a density typical of the Marcobrunn.

We recommend at least 45 minutes decantation and is to be served at 12 C in a big glass.
