Wirsching 2019 Iphöfer Kalb Silvaner Premier Cru dry (0,375l)

Regular price £13.45

Vineyard: The site Iphöfer Kalb is a steep slope exposed to the south. The gypsum soil warms up easily which leads to elegant wines with fresh and vital flavours and a fine fruitiness. The. mild climate and the long vegetation period enable the vines to collect many minerals from the dark gypsum soil. This results in fruity and substantial wines.

Silvaner from Iphöfen is strong, full-bodied wine with savoury aftertaste and a remarkable storability. The unique character is evoked by the terroir: Not only is the pleasant mineral flavour very present in the taste. Also the high share of chalk in the soil leads to a high quality of extracts in the wine that buffers the acids. The bouquet is very clear with subtle fruitiness.

Wine Writer, Matthew Jukes, reviewed this wine in his 'Wednesday Wines' column;
"This is a fascinating wine and one which celebrates the oft-dowdy Silvaner (or Sylvaner in France) variety by seemingly injecting it with a bolt of electricity which brings this wine alive.  Lovely, salad-fresh, bright green notes are balanced with crisp, celery-crunches and lemon balm details.  It is a little too early for a Spring wine recommendation, but this energetic white is the epitome of Spring in a glass."

Aroma: Subtle fruitiness, fine bouquet of quince, apple and pear.

Taste: Spicy flavours of gypsum, subtle minerality, clear fruity flavours and a fine juicy taste.
