Becker's St Paul Spätburgunder has a fine, medium to deep ruby red colour. On the palate the wine is dense yet fine, elegant and juicy with very good length and excellent structure. It has aromas of liquorice, raspberries, wild berries, tobacco and forest floor. This German Pinot Noir has great ageing potential.
This vineyard where the grapes for this German Pinot Noir were grown is in Weissenburg. The earth there is rich in limestone with a clayey loamy top soil. The wine is named after the former monastery there.
The grapes for this Spätburgunder were carefully hand selected, de-stemmed and fermented in their skins. After two to three weeks of fermentation in open oak barrels they were gently pressed. Maturation was for 18 months in small oak barrels.
