The WineBarn team are proud to have won the 'Best Specialist Retailer for Germany' award at the Decanter Retailer Awards 2020. Decanter is Europe’s leading wine magazine and the ideal place to read wine reviews, find the best wines and learn more about wine tasting. The Decanter Retailer Awards aim to offer “wine drinkers in the UK an indispensable guide to the best wine shops, online retail, wine support services and wine lists on the high street”.
Entries to the Decanter Retailer Awards 2020 were judged in three stages by their independent judging panel, based on what Decanter readers think is most important to them when purchasing wines - quality, value, range, service, innovation and performance of the retailer over the past year. Due to social distancing restrictions, winners were announced purely online this year.
Celebrating and championing the very best in wine retail, Judge Andy Howard MW remarked, “I was almost astonished at how good most of the entries were given the environment that everybody was in when they would have been doing this, so I think an awful lot of commendation needs to be given to the people who’ve put this together, probably in lots of difficult circumstances. I was very surprised at how much good information there was there.”
Judges were particularly impressed with The WineBarn’s diverse range of wines. Judge Peter Richards, a Master of Wine, said, “The WineBarn does a brilliant job with German wine, which is such an exciting category right now and they are very worthy winners. Check them out!”

The WineBarn have also won the title of ‘Specialist Merchant of the Year for Germany’ at the IWC Merchant Awards for the past four years. We also received praise from the national press this summer, featuring in the Daily Telegraph’s wine column. Many of the wines in our portfolio have also impressed critics over the past 12 months, receiving awards for their quality and distinction from the IWC, Decanter, Harpers Wine Stars and Wines of Germany.
