Map of where the wine is produced
Speciality
Organic producer

A small family owned winery in Pünderich situated in the middle part of the Mosel. Riesling is the most important variety here, as the slate slopes give the perfect growing conditions. The best vineyards are located in the “Erste Lage” (first site) and “Pündericher Marienburg”, a steep slope just across the river from the village Pünderich. As the soil varies between blue, grey and red slate, many wines of different styles and unique characters are grown here. Organic and bio-dynamic winegrowing has always been one of Clemens Busch’s main beliefs to achieve fine quality wine and sustainability. The family have become convinced by the effects of bio-dynamic preparation in order to improve the life in the soil and vineyard, and therefore the health of the vines. To express the vineyard’s character in the wine, the fermentation is influenced as little as possible, often these fermentations with natural yeast lasts 8 months or longer. Dry wines including the “Großes Gewächs” (Grand Cru), off-dry wines from the best vineyards and of course the noble sweet wines are part of Clemens Busch’s collection.

    2. 2013 Riesling Vom grauen Schiefer (Grey Slate) QbA dry

    Riesling grey slate

    £226.80 case £18.90 bottle

Has a grey capsule to reflect the grey slate of the vineyard. Quite a nutty savoury nose that reminds me of sunflower seeds and untoasted sesame. Lean, firm, and so focused that it almost ignores you! Lemon ice. Mouthwatering. (Tamlyn Curris - Wine Writer)

    2014 vinateg available from September (£19.60/ bottle    -   £235.20/case)

  3. 2013 Riesling Vom Roten Schiefer (Red Slate) QbA dry

    Red slate Riesling

    3. 2013 Riesling Vom Roten Schiefer (Red Slate) QbA dry

    Red slate Riesling

    £226.80 case £18.90 bottle

This wine has a red capsule to indicate red slate. Quite an astonishing contrast to the grey-slate-terroir effect of the Vom Grauen Schiefer! So much gentler, without all the angles and edges. Ginger-laced apricots, notes of honeybush tea, but still with those high chiselled Riesling cheekbones. (Tamlyn Curris - Wine Writer)

It is an excellent accompaniment to many dishes with good spice.

2014 vintage available from September (£19.60/ bottle   £235.20/case)

    4. 2013 Riesling Marienburg Grand Cru dry

    Riesling GG dry

    £374.88 case £31.24 bottle

Shimmering with intensity, verbena scent spills out of the glass with sweeter notes of white currant and ripe apple pulling through to the palate. It keeps quietly unfolding, petals and lime zested and thoroughbred raciness. Nervy precision and as taut and vibrating as a harp string. (Tamlyn Curris - Wine Writer)

    2014 vintage available from September.

80-year-old vines on their own roots on a vein of red slate. Southeast-facing vineyard so slightly cooler than his others. A powerful and deep-throated expression of Riesling, almost craggy. Pungent green stone fruit and a peppery bite on the tail. Slightly softened by a seam of orange and clementine fruit right at the heart. (Tamlyn Curris - Wine Writer)
